Relationship Sessions

Sessions are one and a half to two hours long  - you leave with the nuts and bolts in strengthening your relationship, decreasing conflict and increasing closeness and intimacy.

WHAT IS PROVIDED?

  1. Initial half-hour consultation beforehand.

  2. Fun and powerful curriculum provided to practice during and after session.

Note that singles can bring a friend to learn!

Poly+ So thruples and quads are welcome for an additional fee.

What can be the cost NOT to attend?

  • Maybe the cost is to wonder if you could have had an exceptional relationship. Everyone likes to say that all couples argue, however exceptional intimate relationships exist and this is possible with some guidance.

  • Perhaps it is continuing to have a "good" or "okay" relationship or sex life, going more years feeling somewhat or very distant from your partner or continuing the same arguments for years to come.

  • Maybe it is wondering what happened to your last relationships and focusing on blame and recreating similar interactions in future relationships.

We spend hundreds of dollars on material items or on vacations that we come back from tired, somewhat renewed or with a few cool memories.

You can come back from these workshops and retreats rejuvenated and feel more love, connection, and joy. Most importantly, you will be given support, practices, and tools to maintain this progress toward more passion, intimacy, joy, and gratitude

for your current or future relationship.

Who are these sessions for?

  • For individuals, couples, and friends who want to take their current or future intimate relationships to a higher level of intimacy, respect, and joy. The focus is on romantic intimate relationships however much of the curriculum directly and indirectly improves all relationships.

  • We will reflect some on past actions in our relationships to identify patterns but mostly focus on the present moment and envision and create what we want.

  • This is for those who are ready or at minimum curious on how to find themselves within relationship.

  • For those who want to learn how to better support one another towards growth and wellness and also deepen their connection with loved ones and friends.

  • This is for those who may feel their relationship has stagnated or their lives feel more separate lately or there is a growing distance.  â€‹

  • For those who would like some guidance and evidenced based practices on new ways to connect. â€‹

These sessions are not for couples who feel they are on a serious brink of divorce or break up. I have referrals for this - discernment counselors.

Individuals who have untreated trauma, a serious untreated mental illness, alcohol or substance abuse, or gambling issues will need to first seek substantial individual mental health treatment before coming to a workshop. If mild in severity then one can complete individual treatment simultaneously.

This retreat is not for couples who have had any history of aggression towards each other, which includes but not limited to damage of an intimate partner's personal property, pushing, holding or restraining partner in any way. This includes restraining a partner from being aggressive with you. Abuse also includes verbal threats of physical violence towards partner, partner's property or loved ones including pets. I have referrals for this.

There will be an intake assessment completed to tailor your session to your needs and also assess whether this is a good fit. Referrals will be made elsewhere to get you the support you may need.

Any physical aggression towards a partner, self, or clinician can result in impromptu de-escalation and individual session (partner can wait separately) and depending on severity - sometimes an immediate ending of the session without a refund.

What will I learn and experience?

  1. Everyone is unique and every relationship is even more so. We will give you both general and specific guidance and as much support and privacy to find your own answers and make these evidenced-based practices your own.

  2. Yvette is a licensed couples therapist  and can support you through your process.

  3. You will learn to become more aware of and prevent the common conflict that occurs in most relationships. You will also learn how to slow conflict down and recover more quickly as well as prevent it altogether.

  4. We will share the most recent research about romantic relationships. It is not just about how to resolve conflict or better communicate. Brain and relationship research share where some of the root causes of conflict, disconnection, and pain lie. We can prevent this. We will make the subconscious conscious and give you concrete tools to experience love and connection.

  5. You will identify exactly how you want to be and what you prefer in your current and future relationships and your unique steps to get there.

  6. Activities will guide us to express emotions more effectively and authentically.

  7. You will come up with more of your own love habits!

  8. During the session - you will be given periodic practice breaks to move and practice out in nature!

  9. General and specific guidance are provided on various ways on how to be more joyful and intimate from daily interactions to those more intimate moments.

Meet the Facilitators:

You can book either of us. Yvette and Chris have known each other for over 20 years and like to joke that they were in "matrimonial bliss" for 20 years. Joke because it was not always like that. They have worked together through trauma from adverse childhood experiences. Chris and Yvette have struggled together through mental and physical health issues. Plus, raising two children can put a strain on a romantic relationship. They now co-parent together and consider each other family for life, creating what works for themselves as individuals, and their family.

Their steps toward greater intimacy, mental wellness, and actual bliss have been because we are honest about our individual and relational needs and seek evidence-based practices and support. Yvette and Chris are passionate about helping others towards more peace, connection, and ecstatic joy!

They appreciate speaking with and listening to all individuals and couples, including those who have a tendency to be marginalized. Chris and Yvette understand that gender identity, gender, sexuality, religion, race, culture... all matter and do not matter in some way. Their curriculum is presented in a non-binary, egalitarian, and universal manner.

Yvette has been working as a counselor for over 20 years. She is a Virginia board-licensed psychotherapist, specifically trained to work with couples and relationships. She brings the training, research, and curriculum. Yvette is nonjudgmental and compassionate and also encourages deep reflection, empowerment, and accountability of one's experience and situation.

Chris has been a teacher and coach for over 20 years. He is a phenomenal teacher and storyteller. His sense of humor helps others discuss uncomfortable topics in a fun and direct way. He has an exceptional ability to listen deeply, and think critically, and as a trained life coach knows exactly how to ask the right questions for you to find your own answers.

Chris and Yvette believe in a holistic perspective.  Much of our sessions focus on the present with awareness, appreciation, and practical ways to navigate the complexities of life and our histories.

When not facilitating retreats, Chris and Yvette enjoy watching serious comedies with a social justice angle, cuddling with each other and their two children, and going outdoors.
